ASB is the largest student sports league in Europe and the second in the world in the number of participating teams.
History
The SBB was created in 2007 on the initiative of Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov , well-known basketball player and coach Sergei Belov , head of CSKA Sergei Kushchenko and head of the RFB Sergei Chernov. In May 2007, the Statute of the ABS was adopted and the Concept of student basketball development in Russia [1] . 210 teams took part in the first season of the ASB Championship (2007/08). In season 8 (2014/15) - more than 800.
Championship
The annual championship of ASB among female and male student teams of Russia consists of three stages.
Divisional stage
Games take place among groups of teams - divisions. Divisions are divided into two types: regional - from one (less often two or three) subjects of the Russian Federation; Higher - teams with sufficient financial and organizational base to participate in a long championship, unite three or more subjects of the Russian Federation. At this stage, each team, according to the rules, holds at least 8 matches at least 2 times a month. The system of the championship in each division is determined by the authorized representative of the ABS and team members. Participants who took 1-3 places in each top division, or representatives of regional and top divisions who received wild-card from the sports department of the ASB, go directly to the final stage of the championship - the Belov League. The rest can apply for participation in the qualifying stage.
Qualifying stage
The guaranteed right to participate in the qualifying stage is given to the teams that did not get directly into the Belov League from the top divisions, and the winners of the regional divisions that did not receive a wild-card to the Belov League. Qualification winners are entitled to participate in the final stage of the ASB Championship.
Belova League
The final stage of the championship ASB. It involves 64 male and female teams. Games take place in three stages: Top 64, Top 16, Super Final. On each drop out 3/4 participants. The winners of the Super Final become ASB champions and get the right to compete at the European Championship among students.

All-Star ASB Match
Since 2008, the league organizers annually (with the exception of 2014) hold a star match. Usually it takes place in the format of opposition teams “West” and “East”. Only in 2013, the format of the event tolerated changes. Instead of one duel, it took place in three cities, where for six days a game session, seminars and training meetings took place. Initially, only men participated in star matches, but soon girls were added to them. In 2015, an ASB school was actually launched as part of an event in St. Petersburg. Often, distinguished guests of ASB star matches are famous people. They were both famous basketball players ( Scotty Pippen , Robert Orri , Dejan Bodiroga , Sergey Belov , Ivan Edeshko , Sharunas Marchiulis , Igor Kurashov , Sergey Panov and others), and political figures ( Sergey Ivanov , Arkady Dvorkovich , Mikhail Prokhorov , Alexander Zhukov ).
