Biography

Juliana Falconeri was born in a wealthy Florentine merchant family; under the influence of her uncle Alexis Falconeri, as a child, she decided to become a nun and was tonsured a novice in 1285 and a nun in 1305, after the death of her mother, founding the first servitude monastery and becoming its abbess. For her order, she drew up a strict charter, approved the wearing of dark monastic robes with white veils. The nuns of the order were primarily concerned with caring for the sick.

Juliana led the order for 35 years, died of a stomach illness, and soon after her death became a saint. In 1420, the order of women’s order of servitude was recognized by Pope Martin V, and Pope Benedict XIII also allowed them to celebrate Juliana's holiday. On July 26, 1637, she was beatified by Pope Innocent XII, and on June 16, 1737, she was canonized by Pope Clement XII, who made June 19, the day of her death, a day of veneration in the whole Catholic Church [2] .
