Biography

He received a bachelor's degree from Nykobing Seminary, at the age of 22 he joined the Ribe Seminary, where he immediately became Conrector (Deputy Director) and where he taught until the end of his life, after some time strengthening her reputation and becoming a well-known specialist in Europe Latin. In 1723 he became the rector of this school; with his efforts, a new building was built for the seminary, he also organized the creation of a large library with her. He was repeatedly offered higher positions, including the rector in Roxville and twice the professorship in Copenhagen, but he always refused, preferring to teach in Ribe.

Even when he was a provost, he began to translate the satires of the ancient Roman poet Juvenal into Danish. In the period 1720-1722 he wrote six of his own satyrs, five of which were published anonymously soon, and the sixth, “Disse Tiders onde Optugtelse”, came out in 1726 with an unusually large print run of 6,000 copies for that time.

Danish literary scholars distinguish two periods in Falster's work: 1720-1722, when his poetry was characterized by energy and optimism, and 1730-1742, when, on the contrary, his poems became filled with pessimism and disappointment in life. In his works, Falster sharply ridiculed the flaws of his era; pointed out the meaning of the native language. In addition to the satyr, he also wrote several reputable works on Latin philology.

The main works: "Satirer" (Copenhagen, 1840); “Amoenitates philologicae” (Amsterdam, 1729-1732); translation of "Tristia" by Ovid.
