Recorded in 1989 in the USA , UK and Canada . The album took 198th place on the Billboard 200 charts [2] .
Creation History
The history of this album began in late 1987, when American producers Marina Albi and Kenny Schaffer from Belca International became interested in Boris Grebenshchikov. They were able to convince the large company Mezhkniga to make Boris a visa to the USA. With their mediation on March 20, 1988, a BG contract was signed with CBS to release eight albums. Practically the whole spring and summer of 1988, work was underway on the album Radio Silence , the international premiere of which took place in November of that year. The wide release of the disc began in June 1989. [3]
Boris Grebenshchikov about the album [4] :
Critics in Russia do not like Radio Silence for the fact that it a) does not look like “ Aquarium ”, b) did not take first place everywhere, thereby confirming the primacy of Soviet rock over everything else, and c) not at all Pomitkowski . They are right. They, as always, did not understand anything.
RS actually ruined the benevolent from its own success (from the autumn of the 86th we moved from the stadium to the stadium under such stormy ovations, as if the Soviet power had been canceled personally) and the promoted Aquarium and put us face to face with the real world.
<...>
After 11 albums of “Aquarium”, it would be rather strange to go to New York to record the 12th album of the same. A chance meeting with Dave Stewart in Los Angeles defined the musical direction of my “American album” because Eurythmics , for certain reasons, then occupied an extraordinary place in my world.
All but two songs (Young Lions and China) are written in English . The process of creating the album, recorded on the film by Michael Upped, is shown in the documentary “ Long Way Home ” ( eng. Long Way Home ).
