Biography

Edward Mahoney was born to a large Irish Catholic family in Brooklyn and grew up in Plaedge on Long Island . His father, grandfather, and brother worked at the New York Police Department, and Eddie himself was an intern at the New York Police Department [1] .

In 1968, after serving 2 years as a police officer in New York, Mahone left his service in law enforcement and engaged in music. He moved to Berkeley , California, and began performing in local clubs [2] .

In 1976, after changing his last name from Mahoney to Mani, Eddie’s fate changed when he met the legendary promoter Bill Graham when he spoke at one of Graham’s events [2] .

The singer appeared on the music scene in the 1970s, during the heyday of the popularity of album rock . Two singles from his debut album in 1977, "Baby Hold On" and "Two Tickets to Paradise" were noted in the charts. [3]

According to the AllMusic music website, “Although Mani didn’t have an outstanding voice, he had a knack for creating blue-collar rock and roll with bright, exciting melodies that he conveyed to the listener with an unexpected degree of polished, radio-acceptable grace.” When the era of MTV began, he, unlike many of his colleagues in album rock, began to make funny video clips with the plot with pleasure and managed to stay afloat. Then, in the mid-1980s, Mani, who did not stand up against the bohemian rock and roll lifestyle, struggling with addiction to alcohol and drugs, lost his popularity. According to AllMusic, “sober, he made a remarkable return in the late 1980s,” with the top ten singles in the US, like Take Me Home Tonight and Walk on Water. But in the early 1990s, his popularity finally subsided [4] .

Personal life

Since 1989, married to Laurie [5] Eddie is the father of four sons and a daughter, Jess , who followed in her father's footsteps and became a singer.
