According to the 2000 census [1] , 30,722 residents of 11,199 households and 8,063 families live in the okrug. The population density is 29.00 people per km 2 . There are 12 679 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of about 12.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 47.00%, African Americans - 49.00%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 2.21%, Asians - 0.34%, Hawaiians - 0.03%, representatives of other races - 0.99 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.70%. Hispanics made up 1.75% of the population, regardless of race .
Of the total of 34.60% of the total number of households , children under the age of 18 live, 44.80% of the households are married couples living together, 22.30% of the households are single women without a spouse, 28.00% of households households are not related to families , 25.10% of households consist of one person, 9.90% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone.
