According to the US Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 3,822.844 km 2 , of which 2,854.183 km 2 is land and 968.661 km 2 or 25,000% are water bodies.

According to the 2010 census [1] , there are 16,427 inhabitants in the district, consisting of 7,037 households and 4,171 families . The population density is 6.00 people per km 2 . On the territory of the district there are 10,795 residential buildings, with a building density of about 4.00-x buildings per km 2 . The racial composition of the population: whites - 91.70%, African Americans - 4.10%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 2.40%, Asians - 0.20%, Hawaiians - 0.00%, representatives of other races - 0.20 %, representatives of two or more races - 1.40%. Hispanic people accounted for 0.90% of the population, regardless of race .
