According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 1,002,331 km 2 , of which 986,791 km 2 are land and 15,540 km 2 or 1,060% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , the district is home to 58 802 residents of 23 701 households and 16 424 families . The population density is 60.00 people per km 2 . There are 30,492 residential buildings on the territory of the okrug, with a building density of about 31,00th building per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 97.82%, African - Americans - 0.60%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.16%, Asians - 0.31%, Hawaiians - 0.03%, representatives of other races - 0.32 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.76%. Hispanics made up 1.46% of the population, regardless of race .
Out of the total number of households , 28.70% are children under the age of 18, 54.80% of households are couples living together, 9.90% of households are single women without a spouse, 30.70% of households households are not related to families , 26.00% of households consist of one person, 13.50% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone.
