Biography
Beginning and career start
The visual impairment of the 2nd group (dystrophy of 90% of the optic nerve and severe nystagmus ), as well as congenital heart disease did not greatly inspire Maxim's parents in a successful career and healthy future for the child. Maxim was physically weak and constantly ill. In this regard, he went to a boarding school for visually impaired children only at 8 years old.
The talented and experienced teaching staff of the Nizhny Novgorod school for children with disabilities helped Maxim to demonstrate various talents and abilities for humanitarian subjects at an early age. Burning out , a literary circle, rhythm, folk dances , as well as repeated victories at various sports and athletics events - all this strengthened the boy’s confidence and artistic and athletic abilities.
Maxim was a soloist of the school choir and the Nizhny Novgorod acapella of boys, won prizes and diplomas at various regional and interregional competitions of singers and readers.
At the age of 14, under the influence of youthful hormones, the boy's voice began to change and Maxim could not continue to engage in vocals .
At this time of youthful "maximalism" and the collapse of the Soviet Union, Maxim Kozhevnikov began to get involved in sports motorcycles and fell into a "bad company" with all the ensuing consequences.
Continuing schooling already at the regional blind school, Maxim studied "excellent", only in Russian there was a rating of "good."
From 1990 to 1991 - in a difficult period of history for Russia, - Maxim Kozhevnikov was seriously carried away by sports ballroom dancing. In fact, starting to dance at the age of 15-16, having problems with health, finances, creative prospects, and even more so sporting ones, "aspired to zero."
But Maxim began to study for 5-6 hours a day in groups and independently, and soon a sports and dance career quickly led to unexpected results, and the young man seriously decided to connect his life with the world of art .
Two years later, Maxim entered the prestigious technical lyceum of the city of N. Novgorod , which took only excellent students after the eighth grade of the city’s schools, and fell into the humanitarian group “No. 16”, attached to the Volga-Vyatka personnel center. [24]
For two years, Maxim Kozhevnikov combined intensive training at the lyceum, institute, sports career of an amateur dancer in two programs, pedagogical activities at Omega-Lokomotiv TSK and work as a loader and seller of agricultural products in grocery markets, as serious ballroom dancing required significant financial investments.
At the end of the lyceum, Maxim faced the question of choosing a path: either continue to dance and go to teaching, or continue his humanitarian education at the institute under the patronage of the President of Russia . Maxim Kozhevnikov chose to conquer the capital of Russia (Moscow) in a creative and sporting direction, and together with his minor dance partner moved to the center of Russian dance. [25]
Working as a teacher of additional education and a rhythmic teacher in several secondary schools , Maxim tirelessly trained and began to make serious progress in amateur “dancing”, both in Russia and abroad. Having replaced several dance partners, and even then, bringing up the leading couples of Russia and the World in dance groups and studios in Moscow and the country, he became interested in choreography and discovered great artistic inclinations, both an individual dancer-athlete and an artist-dancer .
The next economic crisis in Russia made him leave his studies at the institute and GITIS , and concentrate on "financially supporting his family and his dancing career."
In 2002, at the age of 27, without any particular prospects for a further sports career, Maxim made a fateful decision - to pair with Yulia Zagoruychenko and leave for a permanent residence in the USA.
