History
In the late 1930s, these lands came under the control of the Communists, becoming part of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Soviet region . In 1944, at the junction of the districts of Suide, Qingjian, Miji and Hengshan, a county was created, named in memory of the heroically deceased Li Zizhou. After the formation of the PRC in 1950, the Suide Special Region (绥德 专区) was created, and the county became part of it. In 1956, Suide Special District was annexed to Yulin Special Region (榆林 专区). In 1958, the districts of Qingjian, Zizhou and Ubu were annexed to Suide County, but in 1961 they were recreated within their former borders. In 1968, Yulin Special District was renamed Yulin County (榆林 地区).
In 1999, by resolution of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Yulin County and the Yulin City County were disbanded, and the Yulin City District was formed.
