According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 5,040.145 km 2 , of which 4,962,445 km 2 are land and 77,700 km 2 or 1,500% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , 5,267 residents of 1,962 households and 1,308 families live in the okrug. The population density is 1.00 people per km 2 . In the district there are 2,300 residential buildings, with a building density of less than 1.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 93.89%, African - Americans - 0.15%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 3.19%, Asians - 0.30%, Hawaiians - 0.02%, representatives of other races - 0.32 %, representatives of two or more races - 2.13%. Hispanic made up 1.16% of the population, regardless of race .
Among 32.30% of the total number of households , children under the age of 18 live, 56.80% of households are married couples living together, 6.50% of households are single women without a spouse, 33.30% of households households are not related to families , 30.20% of households consist of one person, 13.70% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.47 people and the average family size is 3.09 people.
The age structure of the district: 25.50% under the age of 18, 6.80% from 18 to 24, 28.20% from 25 to 44, 23.60% from 45 to 64, and 23.60% from 65 and older.
