Club career

Haddersfield Town football school graduate. He began his professional football career in 1965 in the main team of the same club, in which he spent seven seasons, taking part in 188 championship matches. In the 1969/70 season, he helped the team take first place in the second division and enter the " elite ", where he made his debut next season. In the 1971/72 season, the club finished last in the First Division and was forced to decline in class, while Cherry left the club.

With his game for this team, he attracted the attention of the Leeds United coaching staff, which he joined in the summer of 1972. He played for the team from Leeds for ten and a half seasons. Most of the time spent at Leeds United was the main player in defending the team, helping the club to become the champion of England in the 1973/74 season and also reach the European Cup finals twice: in 1973 - the Cup Winners Cup , and in 1975 - the Cup European champions .

He completed his professional gaming career at the Bradford City club, speaking in the third division , in which he was a playing coach from 1982 to 1985.

Team Career

In 1977 he was involved in the youth team of England , for which he spent 1 official match.

March 24, 1976 made his debut for the national team of England in the match in honor of the centenary of the Football Association of Wales against the national team of Wales .

As part of the national team, he was a participant in the 1980 European Championship in Italy , at which he played in only one match - against Spain , which the British won but were unable to leave the group. After this match, the team was no longer called up.

During his career in the national team, which lasted 5 years, he spent 27 matches in the form of the country's main team.

Coach Career

He began his coaching career in 1982, becoming the playing coach of Bradford City , with whom he won the Third Division in the 1984/85 season and improved in class. From the next season I stopped entering the field, becoming a full-fledged manager of the team. January 5, 1987, after a 0-0 draw with Birmingham City , the club sank into the relegation zone and at the end of that month, Cherry was relieved of his post.
