The Science Fiction Writers of America was founded in 1965 by Damon Knight , who also became its first president.
In 1992, all members of the association voted to change the official name of the organization in English. Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc. while retaining the old acronym English. SFWA , which is pronounced as / ˈsɛfwə / , and sometimes as / ˈsɪfwə / . [one]
SFWA is one of the most successful non-profit associations in the world, it consists of more than 1,500 authors, artists, editors (in 2010 about 1,600 members).
At his annual banquet, the most distinguished authors are awarded with the prestigious Nebula Prize. The association included such famous writers as Andre Norton , Roger Zhelezny and many others.
