The prize is named after S.V. Kovalevskaya , a Russian woman scientist in the field of mathematics and mechanics , since 1889 a foreign corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences . Kovalevskaya is the first female professor in Russia and Northern Europe and the first woman in the world to be a professor of mathematics.

  • 1997 - Nina Mikhailovna Ivochkina - for the series of works “Nonlinear partial differential equations”
  • 1999 - Valery Vasilievich Kozlov - for the series of works “Tensor invariants of equations of dynamics”
  • 2003 - Grigory Alexandrovich Seregin - for a series of works on three-dimensional systems of hydrodynamics for viscous incompressible liquids
  • 2007 - Sergey Valentinovich Manakov and Vladimir Vyacheslavovich Sokolov - for the series of works “New integrable cases in Hamiltonian mechanics with a finite number of degrees of freedom”
  • 2009 - Andrei Borisovich Bogatyrev - for the series of works “Extreme polynomials and Riemann surfaces”
  • 2012 - Alexey Vladimirovich Borisov and Ivan Sergeevich Mamaev - for a series of monographs on integrable systems of Hamiltonian mechanics
  • 2015 - Alexander Igorevich Bufetov - for the series of works “Ergodic theory and its applications to random processes, representations and Teichmüller theory”
  • 2018 - Iskander Asanovich Taimanov - for the series of works “Topological obstacles to the integrability of geodetic flows”
