According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 2,121,212 km 2 , of which 2,100,492 km 2 are land and 20,720 km 2 or 1,000% are water bodies.
Population
According to the 2010 census [1] , 284,307 residents of 97,735 households and 69,294 families live in the okrug. The population density is 121.00 people per km 2 . There are 106,986 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of about 51.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 72.30%, African - Americans - 20.60%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.00%, Asians - 2.00%, Hawaiians - 0.00%, representatives of other races - 3.10 %, representatives of two or more races - 1.70%. Hispanics accounted for 5.90% of the population, regardless of race .
Of the total number of households , 32.20% are children under the age of 18, 52.80% of households are married couples living together, 13.80% of households are single women without a spouse, 29.10% of households households are not related to families , 24.80% of households consist of one person, 9.20% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.52 people and the average family size is 3.01 people.
