An aviation incident (formerly a prerequisite for a flight accident ) is an event associated with the use of an aircraft that occurred from the moment when a person came on board with the intention to make a flight, until the moment when all persons on board for the purpose of flight, left the aircraft , and due to deviations from the normal functioning of the aircraft which could create or pose a threat to the integrity of the aircraft and (or) the life of persons on board, which could have an impact on safety flight, but did not end in an accident .

In accordance with the "Rules for the Investigation of Aircraft Accidents and Incidents with Civil Aircraft in the Russian Federation" (approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 609 of June 18, 1998), the "Classification of Aviation Events" was adopted - Section 1.2.1.
