According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 1,675.732 km 2 , of which 1,634,292 km 2 is land and 44.030 km 2 or 2.550% are water bodies.
Population
According to the 2000 census [1] , 36,108 residents live in the district as part of 14,026 households and 9,804 families . The population density is 22.00 people per km 2 . There are 16,805 residential buildings on the territory of the district, with a building density of about 10.00 buildings per km 2 . The racial composition of the population: whites - 64.02%, African Americans - 33.12%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.28%, Asians - 0.29%, Hawaiians - 0.09%, representatives of other races - 1.30 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.90%. Hispanic made up 4.25% of the population, regardless of race .
30.40% of the total number of households are children under the age of 18, 49.20% of households are married couples living together, 16.10% of households are single women without a spouse, 30.10% of households households are not related to families , 26.50% of households consist of one person, 12.00% of households consist of elderly (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.50 people, and the average family size is 2.99 people.
