Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 1,683.502 km 2 , of which 1,649.832 km 2 are land and 33.670 km 2 or 1.900% are water bodies.
Population
According to the 2010 census [1] , 425,790 residents of 169,202 households and 111,620 families live in the okrug. The population density is 258.10 people per km 2 . There are 192,180 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of about 116.50 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 74.50%, African Americans - 20.70%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.90%, Asians - 0.50%, Hawaiians - 0.00%, representatives of other races - 0.70 %, representatives of two or more races - 2.60%. Hispanics made up 3.00% of the population, regardless of race .
Of the total of 32.60% of the total number of households , children under the age of 18 live, 43.30% of the households are married couples living together, 17.20% of the households are single women without a spouse, 34.00% of the households households are not related to families , 28.40% of households consist of one person. The average household size is 2.48 people and the average family size is 3.03 people.
The age structure of the district: 25.00% under the age of 18, 8.90% from 18 to 24, 24.70% from 25 to 44, 27.60% from 45 to 64, and 27.60% from 65 and older.
