History

Under the Western Han Empire in 113 BC Shanlo County (Шан 洛 县, “the upper reaches of the Lohe River”) was created in these places. Under the Western Jin Empire, in 266, Shanlo County (上 洛 郡) was also created, whose authorities were also located here. During the empire of Northern Wei in 439, the authorities of the Jingzhou region (荆州) were also located here. In 493, the Jingzhou region was renamed to Lozhou (洛州), and under the Northern Zhou dynasty in 578 it was called Shanzhou (商州).

Under the Sui Empire, Shanlo County was disbanded in 583. In 607, the province of Shanzhou was renamed to Shanlo County, but under the Tang Empire in 618, Shanlo County again became the province of Shanzhou. In 742, the Shanzhou region was again renamed the Shanlo District, in 758 the Shanlo District again became the Shanzhou Region.

After the Mongol conquest, Shanlo County was disbanded in 1264, and these lands came under the direct control of the structures of the Shanzhou region. In 1292, the southern part of the region was separated into a separate county of Ganyu (乾 佑 县), but in 1294 it was disbanded.

Under the Ming Empire, in 1374, the region was demoted and became Shangxian County (商 县). In 1477, the county was again elevated, again becoming the province of Hangzhou.

Under the Qing Empire, in 1725, the Shanzhou region was further elevated in status, becoming “directly controlled” (that is, it became directly subordinate to the provincial government, bypassing the intermediate link in the form of a council); it included the counties of Shannan, Lonan, Shanian, and Zhenan.

After the Xinhai Revolution , administrative structure reform was carried out in China, and in 1913 the area was abolished; On the lands previously directly controlled by the regional authorities, Shangxian County was again created.

During the Civil War, these places came under the control of the Communists in May 1949. In 1950, the Shanlo Special Area (商 雒 专区) was established. In 1958, Danfeng County was disbanded, and part of its territory was annexed to Shangxian County, but in 1961 the counties were restored to their former borders. In 1964, in the framework of the national program for the simplification of hieroglyphs, the character 雒 from the name of the special region was replaced by 洛. In 1969, the Shanlo Special District was renamed to Shanlo County (商洛 地区).

In 1988, Shangxian County was transformed into Shangzhou City County (县级 商 州市).

In 2002, by the decision of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Shanlo County and the city district of Shanzhou were disbanded, and the city district of Shanlo was formed; the territory of the former city county of Shangzhou has become a part of Shangzhou.

Administrative Division
