The flag of the Turkmen SSR is the republican symbol of the Turkmen SSR, one of the 15 republics of the USSR . The last version of the flag was approved on August 1, 1953 with a change in the location of the sickle, hammer and red star in 1973 .

Previous Flags
Since the founding of the Turkmen SSR, 1924 to 1925 and from 1926 to 1937, the USSR flag was used as the flag of the republic.
From 1937 to 1940 the flag of the Turkmen SSR was approved: a red panel with a golden inscription in Latin letters TSSR in the upper left corner.
From 1940 (in connection with the transition of the Turkmen alphabet to Cyrillic ) through 1953, the flag used the inscription TSSR .
