Biography
Marsh was born in Truro , Cornwall . When he was 10 years old, his father became a “reborn Christian” and according to Marsh there is a lot of suppression in this culture [1] . Marsh received a scholarship at Oxford University and graduated with a degree in English.
Marsh lives in Copenhagen with his wife and two daughters. [2]
Career
He began his directorial career with several documentaries for the BBC. His first documentary was Troubleman - The Last Years of Marvin Gaye , and then in 1990 another documentary called The Animator of Prague .
His film “ The King ” with Gael Garcia Bernal in the lead role was shown at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival as part of the “ Special Look ” program [3] .
In 2008, the documentary "The Man on the Rope " was released about Philip Petit, held on a rope between the towers of the World Trade Center . The film won an Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary [4] , a BAFTA Award, and many other awards. His 2011 documentary Project Nim was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Documentary.
In 2009, he shot one of the parts of the movie " Red Riding " for Channel 4 .
In 2014, the film about the life of Stephen Hawking, “The Universe of Stephen Hawking, ” starring Eddie Redmayne , was released. The film has received many awards, including an Academy Award nomination . [5]
