Committee of Antifascist Resistance Fighters

The Committee of Anti-Fascist Resistance Fighters ( German Komitee der Antifaschistischen Widerstandskämpfer , abbr. KdAW ) is an anti-fascist public organization in the German Democratic Republic .

History

The committee replaced the dissolution of the Association persecuted by the Nazi regime in 1953 ( German: Vereinigung der Verfolgten des Naziregimes , VVN) and was in close cooperation with the SED . Not a member of the National Front , the Committee conducted active joint work with him. Members of the Committee were awarded the corresponding medal of the fighters against fascism in the years 1933-1945 and received special benefits in the form of a pension or honorary pension.

The organization was managed by a central board, from which a bureau and a secretariat were elected. In the districts of the GDR there were district committees. In 1983, the organization consisted of about 2,500 people. The Committee had sections for participants in the Spanish Civil War , former prisoners of the Brandenburg Prison, and prisoners of concentration camps .

An important task of the Committee was to disseminate the valuable experience of the national and international struggle against fascism and the preservation of historical revolutionary traditions. The Committee of Anti-Fascist Resistance Fighters was a member of the International Federation of Resistance Fighters and maintained close ties with the Society persecuted by the Nazi regime in Germany.

After the reunification of Germany, the Union for the Defense of Persons Persecuted by the Nazi Regime became the successor to the Committee of Anti-Fascist Resistance Fighters.
