Gameplay
The game is presented in the genre of action adventure games (adventure games) with an open game world .
Game location and moving around the game world
Despite the fact that in some previous games of the series there was the possibility of free movement around the castle, in this part of the restrictions in the gameplay has become even less; the player can freely move around the location - the playing area (the location of the game is the Hogwarts castle and a small part of its environs, including the novice (located behind Hogwarts), part of the Forbidden Forest and the nearby Hagrid hut).
The "living" portraits of various personalities hanging on the walls make it easier to move around the school grounds, because through them you can kind of transgress - go in one place and go out in another. To do this, you need to find out the password for moving through the picture by completing the task that the portrait will give. (This feature is the idea of ββthe authors of the game; neither in the book nor in the film is it shown).
A map of Marauders with detailed schemes of the castle allows you to find out the path to different places and rooms of Hogwarts: by setting a mark in the right place on the map, transparent steps appearing in front of Harry can indicate the direction to the desired place.
Despite the fact that in a free game there is no dynamic change of time of the day, some basic plot tasks also occur at night; also in some episodes, the action goes beyond Hogwarts (for example, characters visit in certain chapters the Ministry of Magic and the house of the Black family).
Tasks and other features
Various tasks are proposed - secondary and main, main tasks follow the plot of the book and film, while secondary ones can be performed in a somewhat free order; at the same time, when the main task is not started, the player is free to move around the area freely at his discretion.
While engaged in research, the player can conjure, interacting with various objects (raise them in the air, solve small puzzles) and other characters (for example, you can challenge one of the school students to a duel). You can also chat with any character by going to him and pressing the Enter key.
Several mini-games are suggested that Harry can play with other schoolchildren: Explosion-Cutter, Spit-Stone, etc.
After completing the plot, the game does not end, the player can go through the remaining secondary tasks, play mini-games and explore the world.
The game simulates the life of the inhabitants of the school; So, students communicate with each other, play games, walk around the school, quarrel. It is possible to meet teachers who go about their business.
Spells
Various spells presented in the game are performed using mouse gestures (in the PC version). In some quests, Harry spells other characters; after the spell is learned, the necessary mouse gesture can be seen in the game menu.
The list of spells includes several common spells, such as: Depulso (repulsive spell), Aktsio (alluring spell), Wingardium Leviosa (spell levitation, lifts items into the air), Reparo (allows you to repair items), Reducto (breaks items into pieces) , Incendio (sets an item on fire); and several military and protective spells - Ostolbeni (stuns the enemy), Riktusempra (incapacitates the enemy by tickling), Expelliarmus (disarms the enemy), Protego (reflects the enemyβs spell), Levicorpus (raises the enemy into the air), Petrificus Totalus (immobilizes the enemy ), Expecto Patronum (causes a patronus ).
The version of the game for the GameBoy Advance and Nintendo DS consoles also has spells: Flipendo (pushes the object away), Ventus (causes a gust of wind), and the PSP version implements the Proto duo (double defense), Ostolbenei duo (double stun spell) and Finite incanthem (removes the effect of other spells).
Characters
Management in the game is carried out by the main character - Harry Potter , but in a few episodes, control passes to Sirius Black , Albus Dumbledore and Fred and George Weasley . When the game is played by Harry, he is accompanied by friends - Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger (however, during some tasks they leave Harry alone).
The game also shows all the key characters of the book and film, including the Weasley family, the full teaching staff of Hogwarts, the main castes of the castle, the death eaters; there are also numerous paintings with "living" inhabitants and stone gargoyles .
Story
The plot of the game follows the plot of the same book and film .
The game begins with a conversation between Dudley and his friends with Harry Potter , completely repeating the dialogue from the film. The first opportunity to control the character is the battle of Harry with the Dementors in the tunnel.
Then Harry gets to Grimmo Square, 12 . Here he helps Ginny and Hermione clean Ronβs house and belongings, and Sirius Black reminds him of how Depulso, Wingardium Leviosa, Reparo, and Akcio spells work (this episode is designed to teach the player the principles of witchcraft in the game).
After all the preparations, Harry goes to the Ministry of Magic to hear cases of misuse of witchcraft (an attempt to save Dudley from unexpectedly and inexplicably appearing dementors led to the fact that Harry was sent a summons on the illegal use of magic, despite the fact that magic was used for self-defense )
The next episode takes the player to Hogwarts - the main scene of the game. Hogwarts offers many secondary tasks and basic, plot tasks: first, Harry collects Dumbledore's Squad - you need to find each member of the squad, and from time to time the task branches out, offering to execute several orders of the Squad members in different order; you need to help the Weasley brothers hide the crackers (preparing a riot at the school against Dolores Umbridge , the new school inspector), catch an owl for Zhou , steal the potion from Umbridge's office, feed Feestralov , put all the goblets in the award hall and fix the windows, save one of the students from Slytherins .
As the found members of the OD arrived in the Help Room , Harry, with the help of Hermione, teaches defense against the dark arts, teaching the members of the Unit new spells. Harry learns some new spells from Fred and George Weasley, in one of the castle grounds, after several attempts, a battle with Slytherins takes place there.
After Harryβs dream, in which he sees an attack on Ronβs father , there is a need to train occlusion skills - lessons to protect consciousness are taught by Severus Snape. In addition, in a subsequent episode of the game, Harry sets off to celebrate Christmas with Sirius; in the Blacks house, the player will need to complete several tasks, including cleaning the house before Christmas (Harry and Ginny find the missing items and find out about the Sirius family).
After returning from Sirius, in the Help Room, Harry shows the members of the OD a spell of the patronus , and at that moment Umbridge blows up the wall. Umbridge strengthens power over the castle, Albus Dumbledore suddenly disappears, and then the plot of the game leads to Hagrid's hut, which is set on fire by Draco Malfoy with a company of Slytherins. After a fight with the Slytherins, Harry helps friends organize a rebellion against Umbridge - with the help of devices prepared by the Weasley, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Polumna twins and other members of the OD, Umbridge is damaged: they deploy portable swamps, destroy loudspeakers, redirect Weasley's tricks from the sovietnik, break the clock ... By controlling the Weasley brothers, the player detonates fireworks in the castle.
After the explosion of the largest cracker, following the plot of the film, Harry sees Voldemort torture Sirius and hurry to the Ministry of Magic with his friends. This gives you the opportunity to control Sirius Black during a fight with Bellatrix Lestrange and Lucius Malfoy . After the godfatherβs death, Harry runs after Bellatrix and meets Voldemort, but then Dumbledore appears, for whom he will play.
After the end of the storyline, the game is again transferred to Hogwarts - Harry helps Polumna collect things (which the Slytherins stole and scattered around the castle), performs secondary tasks.
Development
The game "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" was the fourth Harry Potter game for EA Bright Light (before it, the company created " Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban " (version for game consoles) [1] , " Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire " and a separate part of Quidditch World Cup ).
For the first time in the series, the authors made an adventure game with a large open world, special attention was paid to the ability to move around the world without additional loads. The technological base of the game was the RenderWare game engine, one of the latest versions at that time. Uses the Havok physics engine .
Castle Design
Creating a game in the fifth part of the book, the developers went through a stage of careful planning - the operator ( English CG Supervisor ) Wayne Stables ( English Wayne Stables ) says that while doing virtual Hogwarts , the authors looked at all the developments on this topic made in previous games about Harry Potter.
Kelvin Tuite, art director, says that before recreating the castle in virtual space, the authors made plans and sketches based on notes taken from Joan Rowling , as well as descriptions of the castle, all rooms and surrounding areas found in Harry's books Potter. In addition, the design of many rooms exactly corresponds to the rooms shown in the films of the series; when creating, the authors were guided by personnel and materials from the film [2] .
As a result, the castle in the fifth part surpasses the Hogwarts castles, which were made in the previous games of the series in size (and was recreated), representing a location of very large sizes; not only Hogwarts rooms and rooms were modeled, where episodes take place according to the plot of the game, but also dozens of secondary rooms, as well as the surroundings, including the castle lake and some part of the forest.
(Later, in the game for the sixth part, the developers further expanded the territory, adding the way to the Quidditch stadium and the stadium itself).
Scoring
When voicing the characters, some actors were involved who played their roles in the film of the same name, including key characters ( Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, Bonnie Wright as Ginny, Oliver and James Phelps as Fred and George Weasley).
The appearance of the characters was modeled from the appearance of the actors of the film. SoftKlab , which published the game in Russia, also attracted some of the actors who worked on dubbing the film.
Platform Differences
There are a number of differences between versions of the game for different platforms. (Nevertheless, as in the fourth part, all versions are generally similar; until the fourth part, almost every platform on which the game was released received its own version of the game).
In addition to the controls and graphics changed for different versions (the highest level of graphics, similar to the versions for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 , but with the ability to set any screen resolution and more advanced graphic settings, is demonstrated by the PC version ), versions for the Xbox 360 , PS3 , PS2 , PSP , Wii , PC , Mac are similar (however, the PSP version does not have some chapters that are present in versions for "large" devices).
The game for Pocket GameBoy Advance and Nintendo DS consoles is as stylistically as possible similar to the version for other platforms, but differs in graphics (it is simplified in view of the features of the consoles) and smaller location sizes (for example, the GBA version does not have a boat shed). The set of spells is also different - the Flipendo spell is present in the game for GBA and NDS, but is absent in games for all other platforms; Stupefy Duo (Double-Dangled Dumbbell) is only available in the PSP version.
