Biography
Arnou Fremy was born in the family of a professor in Saint-Sure-sur, and from childhood he wanted to study linguistics. In 1843 he presented the thesis “Les variations du style français au XVII siècle”, receiving a scientific degree for this study [4] , shortly after which he became a professor in the department of French literature at the University of Lyon, already starting to collaborate as a writer and journalist with periodicals, which ultimately led to his dismissal from the university. In 1847 he moved to the same department in Strasbourg, but soon after the revolution began, he left his university career and decided to devote himself completely to literature and journalism.
Even during his work in Lyon, he became famous as the author of a number of novels: “Elfride” and “Les deux anges” (1833), “Une fée de salon” (1836), “La chasse aux fantômes”, “Les roués de Paris” (1839), Les femmes proscrites (1840), Physiologie du rentier (1841, in collaboration with Balzac). From 1854 to 1859 he was one of the chief editors of Charivari magazine, also collaborated with such publications as Revue de Paris, Revue britannique, Siècle.
Other famous works of his authorship: “Le journal d'une jeune fille”, “Les maîtresses parisiennes”, “Confessions d'un bohémien”, “Les moeurs de notre temps”, “Les amants d'aujourdhui”, “La comédie de printemps ”,“ La révolution du journalisme ”,“ Les batailles d'Adrienne ”,“ Les gens mal élevés ”“ Les pensées de tout le monde ”,“ La guerre future ”,“ Comment lisent les français d'aujourdhui ”,“ Qu'est ce que la France? ” He also penned the comedies Le loup dans la bergerie (1853, in one act) and La réclame (1857, in five acts), which at one time successfully went to the Odeon theater. In a large number of his works there are elements of satire on contemporary French society.
