History

The district was formed at the beginning of the 20th century on the territory of the former village of Zvezhinets, which became part of Krakow in 1910. In 1912, the district, by decision of the city council, was named after the name of the Church of the Holy Savior, which in Polish bears the Latin name "Holy Salvator". Since 1909, the area began to be built up with small houses in the style of a villa. By 1912, about thirty similar villas were built, which were designed by Krakow architects Roman Bandursky and Alfred Kramarsky. Between the two world wars, the villas were built according to the project of architects Ferdinand Libling, Henryk Yasensky and Ludwik Wojtychko. The last villa was built in 1955.

Every year on Easter Monday in the territory of Salvator near the Church of Saints Augustine and John the Baptist, the Polish national holiday Emmaus takes place.
