Biography
He took holy orders in his hometown, afterwards he was successively a professor of philosophy at the seminary, a lyceum and from 1839 at the philological faculty in Montpellier (founded in 1838), then vicar of the Diocese of Herault (1844-1888). He was known as a consistent critic of the ideas of Robert de Lamenne [2] ; in 1857-1858 he participated in theological disputes with Charles Jeannell; from 1861 he studied the works of St. Augustine.
