History

The first information about the village dates back to 1344. Until the end of the 18th century, the village was the property of the Cracow bishops . In the XV century, a manor, a mill and an inn were built in the village. In 1676, the Polish king Jan III Sobieski established a customs post in the village. Since the 19th century, the village belonged to the canon M. Dubnitsky and after him - to the Benkovsky family. During the construction of the Krakow fortress at the end of the 19th century, the artillery fort 48 “Batowice” was built in the village. In the period between the two world wars, the railway line Krakow-Tunnel was laid through the village in 1934.

In 1973, the southern part of the village became part of Krakow and became part of the Krakow district of Nova Guta (now part of the Mistszewice district). In 1975-1998, the village was part of the Cracow Voivodeship.

Batowice received its name from Batowice cemetery , which today is located on the territory of the Kraków district of Prondnik-Chervona .
