History

It was founded in 1682 as an Old Believer settlement. The name comes from the biblical Mount of Elion. In 1715, Elionka, like all Old Believer settlements of Starodubya, was unsubscribed to the sovereign's name. A special management of the Old Believer settlements was organized with a center in Klimovo. These settlements grew very quickly and since 1782 self-government was introduced in them. Elionka receives the status of Posad.

According to the first All-Russian population census in 1897, there were 759 yards and 3201 people lived there.

From the first third of the XVIII century. Elyonka becomes a major craft center (bristles, hemp oil, hemp, brick) and trade (at the beginning of the 20th century there were 42 shops).

Some local entrepreneurs owned decent capital. Having become rich, they acquire a number of landowner estates in Starodubye , including the Tenth .

Attractions

The layout of the landing was initially distinguished by the strict planning of the buildings (the three lines of streets run from north to south in parallel, and then connect, reminding in terms of the boat-ark - the Christian symbol of salvation).

In the XVIII century. Elionka had several Old Believer churches that did not survive (did not survive); in 1821 the stone single-faith church of John the Baptist was erected, also not preserved. In 1912, at the expense of the merchants of Gusev, local craftsmen built in the Russian style a grandiose five-headed wooden Old Believer John-3namensky church. After the closure of the temple during the Soviet era, it was used as a warehouse. The church was originally owned by Belokrinitsky Old Believers. After the transfer of the church to the Russian Old Orthodox Church, the church was consecrated in honor of St. St. George the Victorious. The church today is the architectural dominant of the village and its surroundings. The temple hosts regular services.

During the restoration work, it was possible to restore the bell tower elements, the foundation and the blind area. In 2014, work began on the construction of the bell tower dome, which ended on November 21, 2017.
