Description
Designed in 1901 by the artillery engineer Giuseppe Perino. He became the first automatic weapon of the royal Italian troops . It was produced in a rather limited number, despite the higher quality compared to other machine guns made in Italy. In 1910, it underwent modernization, the weight was reduced from 27 kg to 17. It was in service with Savoy in parallel with the Maxim machine gun.
Power was supplied from cartridge holders (metal plates) with a capacity of 20 rounds, which were kept in a special store attached to the machine gun and manually inserted by calculation . The Perino machine gun was cooled by water circulating inside the cylinder due to the reciprocating movements of the barrel. [1] [2]
