Biography
Born January 12, 1885 in a peasant family in the village of Odrovonzh, Austria-Hungary (today - Lesser Poland Voivodeship , Poland). He graduated from high school in Krakow . He studied at the University of Lviv , after which he worked as editor of the Lviv newspapers Kurier Lwowski and Nowa Reforma . In the 10s of the XX century he moved to Podhale , where he began to work as editor-in-chief of the cultural and public magazine “ Gazeta Podhalańska ” . In 1913 he joined the sports organization " Falcon ". Since 1914 he participated in the battles of the First World War as part of the Polish Legions . In 1918 he received the rank of captain.
After the war, he was the editor-in-chief of the Gospodarz Polski newspaper and the chairman of the Hural Union. In 1928-1935 he was a deputy of the II and III convocations of the Polish Sejm. In 1938 he was elected senator.
During the Second World War he was a member of the Home Army . He participated in the Warsaw Uprising . He was the commandant of the V district - Sadyba of the Mokotovsky district of the Home Army. At the same time he wrote the songs “Przybyli ułani pod okienko” and “Wojenko, wojenko, cóżeś ty za pani”, popular among the Poles. From March 1945 he lived in Krakow , where from April to July he worked as editor of the illegal newspaper Wolność i Prawda . He participated in the activities of the anti-communist organization “Convention for the Organization of Independent” (Konwent Organizacji Niepodległościowych). On August 16, 1945, he was arrested by security agencies for anti-communist activities. He was released from prison in October 1945, after which he worked on Polish Radio. On September 14, 1951 he was again arrested and held in the Mokotow prison, where he died on May 27, 1952.
He was buried at the Chernyakovsky cemetery in Warsaw (quarter I-15-12).
