Biography
In 1973 she graduated from Lipetsk art school [1] in the class "Artist of Khokhloma painting." From 1977 to 1980 she taught at this school in the “Industrial Training” class.
In 1980, by invitation, she moved to Kemerovo , where, while working as an artist-designer at the Fuel Industry Administration, she became closely involved in arts and crafts , namely painting vases, samovars, dishes, caskets, trays and kitchen utensils.
In 1982, she moved to Novosibirsk in the village of Kolyvan , where she worked as the main artist at the Umelitz factory of art souvenirs (the company was liquidated in 2002) [2] .
During the years of perestroika (from 1987 to 1995), Olga Kirina set up her own production of painted products and became the chairperson of the cooperative “Art Painting”. She becomes a famous citizen of the village, a winner of regional competitions and festivals.
Olga admires stately beauty, the grand scale of Siberian nature. She attentively looks at local crafts. Particularly attracted her products from birch bark. It is impossible to remain indifferent to this beautiful, warm both in appearance and to the touch.
In 1996, a small icon, imprinted on a piece of birch bark, came across Kirin’s eyes in a church bench. According to Olga Kirina, it was this event that turned her whole creative life. Olga becomes clear that from now on she wants to make an icon of birch bark. Later, the abbess of the local convent explained to her: it means that it was at that time.
But before embodying her plans, she needed to master the craft side of things, studied icon painting. Having independently studied the properties of birch bark, Olga decided to use this material to create holy images. Over the next three years, Kirina developed her own author's icon-making technology.
The first work of Olga Kirina in the new direction was the icon “Christ Pantocrator”. This was an appeal for blessing through the icon.
In 2000, having received the blessing of the Archbishop of Novosibirsk and Berdsky Tikhon, Olga is engaged in the manufacture of icons.
Works of Olga Kirina participate in exhibitions of Orthodox art in Russia and abroad. The artist shares the secrets of mastery - conducts master classes, publishes teaching materials in special editions.
