Life and career
Jones was born in Memphis, Tennessee. She grew up in Los Angeles, where her parents moved to get a job. While in California, she studied basketball scholarships at Chapman University , and then graduated from Colorado State University at Fort Collins [2] . During the training, she decided to retrain into a comedian stand-up, after several performances, and then began to work regularly in clubs to make ends meet. Soon she moved to New York, where she participated in the comedy show BET ComicView [3] . Her debut on the stage of The Comedy Store was a failure, as she was booed by the audience and did not perform for the next three years, working on the skills of a comedian screenwriter [4] .
Since the late 1990s, Jones began to take on small roles in the films Guilty No Guilty (1998), National Security (2003), Bachelor Party (2003) and Lottery Ticket (2010). Her breakthrough came in 2014 when she was hired as a screenwriter in the NBC comedy show Saturday Night Live . Jones thus became only the sixth black screenwriter in the history of the show [5] . In October 2014, she was promoted to the cast [6] [7] . A break with the show led her to roles in the films "Top 5" (2014) and "Pioneers" (2015) [8] .
In January 2015, Jones got one of the central roles in reloading the film Ghostbusters directed by Paul Feig , which also starred Melissa McCarthy , Kristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon ; the film was released on July 22, 2016 [9] [10] .
