Geography
Area 1,130 km 2 (1st among districts).
The district borders on the north with Ternopol , in the north-west with Kozovsky , in the north-east with Podvolochissky , in the south with Buchachsky and Chortkovsky , in the west with Podgaetskiy , in the east with Gusyatinsky districts of the Ternopol region .
The main rivers are Seret , Strypa .
History
The district was founded in 1939 .

The population of the district is 70,185 people (4th among districts; 2006 data), including 18,559 people living in urban conditions. In total there are 78 settlements.
