History

St. Petro-Pavlovskaya Chapel in the village of Lesnaya

On September 28, 1708, during the Northern War, near the village of Lesnaya, Russian troops under the command of Peter I defeated the Swedish corps of General Adam Levengaupt . Thus, the plans of the campaign of the Swedish king Charles XII to Moscow were disrupted. [2] Peter I called this victory “the mother of the Poltava victory ”. [3]

In 1908, to mark the 200th anniversary of the victory at Lesnoy, the tsarist government decided to perpetuate the place of death of Russian soldiers. A stone temple was laid, a prototype of the Petrovsky wooden church . The temple was built in the pseudo-Russian style , its opening took place on July 12, 1912 on the feast day of St. Peter . This temple is a monument and is depicted on the coat of arms of Slavgorod . [1] [2]

Description

The coat of arms of the city of Slavgorod and the Slavgorod district is an image of a golden chapel on the blue field of the Spanish shield [1] . The memorial chapel reflects the highlight of the area. The blue enamel of the shield represents the Pronyu and Sozh rivers, at the confluence of which the city arose [4] .
