Magma Geopark is a geopark of the European Network of Geoparks and UNESCO with the assistance of the Global Network of National Geoparks since 2010. The geopark area (2329 sq. Km) is composed of intrusive igneous rock - this is the second geopark in Norway, which is a member of the European Network of Geoparks. Magma Geopark is located in southwestern Norway in the municipalities of Bjerkreim , Eigersund , Flekkefjord , Lund and Sokndal (N58 ° 26'52 '' E006 ° 00'22 '').
1.5 million years ago, the territory of the geopark was kilometers of red-hot magma and sky-high mountains. The landscape that we see today has been shaped by glaciers for millions of years. The main rock of the geopark ( Anorthositis ) also composes part of the surface of the moon.
Magma Geopark is a combination of natural, cultural, historical and industrial attractions, both for local visitors and tourists. The area has a wide network of routes and places for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, climbing, kayaking.
