According to Rolling Stone magazine, “with its poetic lyrics, emotional vocal style, and free-form compositions scooped up a lot from gospel and soul, Niro had a great influence on both his contemporaries and future generations” [2] . As the New York Times wrote , “with her uninhibited vocal howls, she also helped [...] establish the blue-eyed soul style, so named because it was popularized by white singers imitating their black idols” [3] . AllMusic also writes that the artistic heritage of Laura Niro is “an unusually powerful vocal phrasing, creating strong images of texts and an alchemical alloy of structures of gospel, soul, funk and jazz ” [4] .
Although the recordings of Laura Niro were highly praised by critics, her songs were more successful in the mouths of other artists [4] . Therefore, she was best known for other hits such as Wedding Bell Blues (hit by Fifth Dimension ), “Stoned Soul Picnic” (Fifth Dimension), “Sweet Blindness” (Fifth Dimension), “And When I Die” (hit performed by the trio of Peter, Paul and Mary and the band Blood, Sweat and Tears ), “Stoney End” (in the Spanish version of Barbra Streisand ) and “Eli's Comin '” ( Three Dog Night ) [2] [3] . She herself never earned a single gold disc, and not one of her singles became a hit [3] .
Born in the Bronx , New York City , October 18, 1947. As a teenager, she began performing on New York streets and in the subway. Over time, a recording contract was signed with her. In 1967 she performed at the famous Monterey Pop Festival [5] . It is also noteworthy that at the beginning of her career, she was one of the main acts in the arsenal of producer David Geffen [2] .
She died in 1997 at the age of 49 from ovarian cancer [2] .
In 2012, the singer was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (precisely as a performer, that is, in the category of "Performers") [6] .
