Street Snake from Bosnia ( Bosn. Ulica Zmaja od Bosne ) - the main street of the city of Sarajevo , named after Hussein Gradashchevich . The street connecting the cultural and historical center of the city with its industrial part was widely known in the world press as the “Sniper Alley” ( Bosnian Snajperska aleja , English Sniper Alley ) during the siege of Sarajevo by the Bosnian Serbs .

Sniper Alley
The hills around the city and high-rise buildings along the street itself created favorable conditions for sniper fire [1] [2] . For safer movement along the street, local residents were forced to use the armored transport of UN peacekeepers as a cover. People who tried to move in dashes, but without protection, often became victims of snipers. A total of 225 people were killed by sniper fire along the street, most of whom were civilians. Another 1030 people were injured [3] [4] . Anti-sniper teams from among UN peacekeepers have attempted to identify and destroy snipers [2] . Also, local residents tried to fight with snipers by their own methods, but the threat to become a victim of shelling of the besiegers existed until the end of the war [5] . French peacekeepers claimed that sniper fire on civilians was conducted not only by Serbs, but also by Bosnian soldiers [6] .
Later, “Sniper Alley” has become attractive for tourists as one of the most famous symbols of the Bosnian war [7] [4] . In 2011, on the anniversary of the outbreak of war, the Sarajevo administration put up rows of red chairs in rows of 11541 in rows in memory of local residents who died during the siege of the city [8] .

The scenes of shelling civilians by street snipers during a military conflict in Bosnia are featured in the feature films Peacemaker , Welcome to Sarajevo , and In the Land of Blood and Honey . Also, “Sniper Alley” is present as a location in the computer game “ This War of Mine ”.
