Es Sakakini ( Arabic: السكاكيني ) is a small district (quarter) in Cairo , Egypt . Located between the districts of Ez Zahir and Abbassia .
The area of the Sakakini quarter was originally part of the Ez Zahir district. The area was named after a rich and famous family of Syrian descent living in the district of Ez Zahir. Gabriel Habib Sakakini Pasha (1841-1923) in 1897 built a palace and a church in the area. In addition, Sakakini Pasha created the community of the Greek Catholic Patriarchate in Fagal and the Greek Catholic cemetery in Old Cairo [1] . Where he himself was buried in a tomb made in the Byzantine style. At the moment, the Sakakini Palace is in need of restoration. Historians fear that the restoration process will be delayed and that the Sakakini Pasha Palace will remain in its present deplorable state for a long time. The Egyptian government cannot yet recognize the palace as a national heritage monument [2] .
