KaragandaState District Power Station -2 - a power plant of national importance [2] [3] . Located three kilometers from the village of Topar, Karaganda region of Kazakhstan . It is part of the Kazakhmys Energy LLP, which combines the energy assets of the Kazakhmys Corporation and is its largest generating company. The electricity generated by GRES-2 goes to cover the electrical loads of the company's enterprises in the Karaganda, Zhezkazgan and Balkhash regions. Excess electricity is sold in the wholesale market of Kazakhstan. Included in the Northern zone of the Unified Energy System of Kazakhstan.

History
Land for the construction of the Karaganda State District Power Station-2 was allocated in September 1949 by a decision of the Oblast Executive Committee of the Karaganda Region. The design assignment for the new power plant was approved by order of the USSR Minister of Energy on January 19, 1953. The first stone in the foundation of the Karaganda State District Power Station-2 was laid on March 16, 1954, at which the construction of the Topar settlement was also begun [4] . The first phase of the power plant was put into operation on June 12, 1962 by launching the first turbogenerator. The last generator was put into operation in September 1968 [5] . GRES-2 was the first power plant in Kazakhstan to install 100 MW turbines [6] . Design capacity - 700 MW [6] .

- 16 steam power boilers.
Rewards
- 1976 - By resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan, the Presidium of the Supreme Council and the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR, Karaganda State District Power Station-2 is listed in the Golden Book of Honor of the Kazakh SSR.
- For achieving high performance indicators, the team of Karaganda State District Power Station-2 was listed 16 times in a row on the Regional Honor Board [4] .
Owners
In Soviet times it was in state ownership. With the collapse of the USSR, it passed into the state ownership of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 1996, the Government Decree dated 03.10.1996 No. 1222 [7] “On Privatization of the Property Complex of the KARAGANDA GRES-2” held a closed investment tender for the sale of the property complex of Karaganda GRES-2 to private ownership. Today the station is owned by Kazakhmys [8] .
