Nicola Walker began attending acting classes at the age of 12 to learn how to talk to boys. Later, while studying at Cambridge , at the New Hall Women's College, Walker was a member of the amateur theater club Footlights . After graduating from Cambridge, she was offered a place at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts . Then she began to play the first roles in the theater, including at the Edinburgh Festival [1] .

His first roles on television, appearing as a supporting actress and guest actress in several popular TV shows. In 1997, she starred as Detective Susan Taylor on the ITV television series Touching Evil. The series has been extended for the second and third seasons. In 1999, she began filming the post-apocalyptic series The Last Train.

In 2003, the creators of the series " Ghosts " began to look for an actress to replace Jenny Egatter , who left the series after the first season. The heroine Ruth Evershed was written specifically for Nicola Walker [1] . In the fifth season, she left the shooting due to pregnancy. She returned in 2009 and remained in the main part of the series until its end in 2011.

Since 2012, Walker has starred in the BBC drama “The Last Tango in Halifax” along with Derek Jacobi and Sarah Lancashire. The series won the BAFTA television award , and Walker lost her nomination to her colleague, Sarah Lancashire [2] .

In 2013, Walker won the Lawrence Olivier Award for her role as Judy, mother of Christopher Boone, in the play Mysterious Nightly Killing a Dog . [3] In 2014, she played the role of Beatrice in Arthur Miller ’s play “ View from a Bridge ” in the Young-Vic Theater [4] .

In 2015, the actress appeared in the TV series "River", playing the role of Jackie "Stevie" Stevenson, colleagues of Detective Inspector River (Stellan Skasgaard) [5] .

Also this year, she played a major role in the dramatic detective series “ Unforgettable ” on ITV [6] , which was extended to the second season in January 2017.
