Biography
Elizabeth of Lancaster was born into the family of John Gaunt and his first wife Blanche of Lancaster on February 21, 1363. Some sources say the date of her birth on January 1, 1363. Elizabeth was born in Barford, Shropshire . Elizabeth’s childhood passed in her father’s house under the supervision of Catherine Swinford .
First marriage
On June 24, 1380, Elizabeth married John Hastings , 3rd Earl of Pembroke . The wedding took place at Kenilworth Castle . Elizabeth became the Countess of Pembroke [3] . Six years later, the marriage was annulled.
Second marriage
On June 24, 1386, Elizabeth married John Holland , 1st Duke of Exeter . Elizabeth gave birth to five children to John Holland:
- Constance Holland (1387 - November 12/14, 1437); 1st husband: since 1404, Thomas Mowbray (September 17, 1385 - June 8, 1405), 4th Earl of Norfolk and 2nd Earl of Nottingham, 7th Baron Mowbray and 8th Baron Segrave, Earl of Marshall since 1399; 2nd husband: since 1413, Sir John Gray (d. August 27, 1439);
- Richard Holland (d. September 3, 1400);
- Edward Holland (c. 1399 - after 1413);
- Alice Holland (c. 1392 - until 1406); husband: earlier than 1400, Richard de Ver (c. 1385 - February 15, 1417), 11th Earl of Oxford from 1400;
- John Holland (March 29, 1395 - August 5, 1447), 2nd Earl of Huntingdon since 1416, 2nd Duke of Exeter since 1439, Lord Admiral of England since 1435.
Third marriage
After the death of John Holland on December 12, 1400, Elizabeth married John Cornwall (c. 1364 - December 11, 1443), 1st Baron Fenhope.
Married to John Cornwall, Elizabeth gave birth to two children:
- Constance Cornwall (1401-1427), married John Fitzalan, 14th Earl of Arundel;
- John Cornwall (1404-1422). [four]
Death
Elizabeth died in 1426 and is buried in Barford, Shropshire.
