Create

The 159th Guards Fighter Aviation Novorossiysk Regiment was formed on April 14, 1944 by converting from the 88th Fighter Aviation Novorossiysk Regiment to the Guards Regiment for exemplary combat missions and shown courage and heroism on the basis of the Order of the Non-Profit Organization of the USSR [1] .

Reorganizing a regiment

  • The 159th Guards Fighter Aviation Novorossiysk Red Banner Order of the Suvorov Regiment in the fall of 2009, during the reform of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation as part of the 6th Air Force and Air Defense Army, was reorganized into the 6961th Guards Aviation Novorossiysk Red Banner Order of the Suvorov Base.
