Audience
After the success of the film “Joyless Lane” in Europe, Greta Garbo was invited to Hollywood, however, the American press responded mockingly to the Swede who arrived and the producers were in no hurry to offer her roles - Garbo did not speak English and had looks and manners that were far from “Hollywood” standards. However, before the filming of the film “Stream”, the performer of the role of Leonora, actress Alma Rubens [2] (who soon married the performer of the role of Rafael Ricardo Cortes) fell ill and Garbo was urgently invited to replace him. The film was also successful [3] , collecting $ 668,000 at the worldwide box office (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer made $ 126,000) and glorified Greta Garbo in the USA (in particular, Variety weekly described Garbo's debut as “a girl who has everything ”), Simultaneously forming the image of the mysterious and fatal beauty, used in subsequent films with the participation of the actress [4] . In 2011, the film was released on DVD as part of the Warner Archive Collection .
