Al-Ahfash al-Ausat ( Arabic: الأخفش الأوسط - Ahfash the Middle; d.830 ) - an Arabic grammar player, a connoisseur of the Arabic language and literature.

His full name is Abul-Hassan Saeed ibn Mas'ada al-Majashi'i al-Balkhi al-Basri ( Arabic. أبو الحسن سعيد بن مسعدة المجاشعي البلخي البصري ).
Al-Ahfash al-Ausat was born in Balkh , then lived in Basra . He studied with Sibavehihi and Halil al-Farahidhi . According to legend, Ahfash Sredny was the only student of Sibaveikhi, to whom the author conveyed the text and “correct understanding” of his “Book” . And after the death of his teacher, Ahfash allegedly hid the “Book” in order to pass it off as his work, but the younger students of Sibaveikhi raised money and persuaded him to “read” the text of the book to them [1] .
Al-Ahfash is the author of several works: “Tafsir ma'ani al-Kuran” ( تفسير معاني القرآن ), “Sharh abyat al-Ma'ani” ( شرح أبيات المعاني ), “al-Ishtikak” ( الاشتقاق Ma'ani al-shi'r ( معاني الشعر ), Kitab al-muluk ( كتاب الملوك ) and al-Kawafi ( القوافي ) [2] .
