The Bernese Physiologist ( lat. Physiologus Bongarsianus ) is an illuminated manuscript of the Latin translation of the Physiologist of the Carolingian era , created, probably, in Reims . For a long time it was located at St. Peter’s Abbey in Hauteville , in 1632 it was donated to the city library of Bern , where it has been kept since (catalog designation Codex Bongarsianus 318 ).

The manuscript was created, presumably between the years 825-850, in a colophon on a 130 revolving sheet, the scribe calls himself Goepert (Haecpertus). In its current form includes 131 parchment sheet format 255 × 180 mm. The manuscript is rewritten by Carolinga minuscule , uncyal is used for headings. In 1946, the manuscript was restored. Also includes 25 framed thumbnails and another 10 - in the text. Perhaps they are copied from the ancient prototype of the V century.
