History
Created on March 1, 1920 by a decision of the Government of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic . During the years of Soviet power, the agency functioned under various names. After Azerbaijan regained its state independence, the agency restored its historical name. Since March 3, 1995 it has been called the State Telegraph Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers, and since January 17, 2000 it has received the name of Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency.
Along with official state news, AzerTAc continuously issues reliable and up-to-date information on socio-political, economic topics, science, education, culture, healthcare, sports, the environment, etc. in Azerbaijani, Russian, English, German, French, throughout the day. Chinese and Arabic.
AzerTAj signed cooperation agreements with news agencies: ITAR-TASS ( Russia ), Anatolian Agency ( Turkey ), Xinhua ( China ), Rompress ( Romania ), Ukrinform ( Ukraine ), BTA ( Bulgaria ), ANSA ( Italy ), IRNA ( Iran) ), TANYUG ( Serbia ), BelTA ( Belarus ), Moldpres ( Moldova ), ATA ( Albania ), MTI ( Hungary ), MENA ( Egypt ), PETRA ( Jordan ), Antara ( Indonesia ), Montsame ( Mongolia ), Yonhap ( Republic) Korea ), LETA ( Latvia ), Kabar ( Kyrgyzstan ) and others.
In 2004, he was admitted to the Organization of Information Agencies of Asia and the Pacific ( OANA ).
AZERTAC is one of the founders of the Association of National News Agencies (ANIA) of the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States , the Association of News Agencies of Turkic Speaking Countries (TCA), the Association of National News Agencies of the Member Countries of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PANIA).
Since 2008, AZERTAC has been a member of AsiaPulse , an Asian consortium of news agencies.
In 2010-2013, the agency chaired the PANIA.
At the XV General Assembly of the OASA, held in September 2013 in Moscow, he was elected vice president of the organization. At the same meeting, by secret ballot of member agencies, AZERTAC received the right to chair the OASA for 2016-2019. At the XVI General Assembly of the OASA, held on November 18, 2016 in Baku, the agency took up the duties of chairman [2] .
November 20, 2013 in the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia , Riyadh, at the IV World Congress of News Agencies (NAWC) with the participation of more than 70 influential media organizations in the world, leaders of news alliances OANA, EANA , FANA , IINA , leading media structures such as " SKY Nyus Arabia ”,“ Los Angeles Times ”,“ Guardian ”, Air Force and the famous Internet corporations MSN , Google , Yahoo AZERTAC was elected chairman for 2016-2019 and a decision was made to hold the V World Congress of News Agencies in Azerbaijan. In 2014-2016, in order to prepare for this event, 5 meetings of the executive body of the Congress, the World Council of News Agencies (NACO), were held - 3 in Baku and 2 in London. At one of the Baku meetings, the posts of chairman and deputy chairman of the World Council of News Agencies were first established.
On November 16-17, 2016, with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and AZERTAC, the V World Congress of News Agencies was held in Baku. The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the joint opening ceremony of the 5th Congress and the 16th General Assembly of the OASA [3] . The events were attended by up to 190 leaders and representatives of about 100 news agencies from 80 countries, international experts in the field of media, the UN official representative - UNESCO, as well as employees of regional media structures. The Congress features news agencies from all over the world. At the Congress, the message of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon [4] was read out and a video message from UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova [5] was presented. At the Baku Congress, held under the motto “New challenges for news agencies”, reports were heard, discussions were held on topics “The future of information consumption”, “News agencies - challenges and opportunities of new technologies and social media”, “Innovations of news agencies” [6 ] , “Training of Journalists for the Future of Multimedia” and “Protecting the Mission of Journalists: Freedom, Accessibility, Security and Conflict Zones” [7] .
AZERTAC corporations operate in the USA , England , France , Germany , Austria , Latvia , Hungary , Russia , Ukraine , Egypt , Turkey , Georgia , Iran , Kazakhstan , Uzbekistan , Romania , Spain , Italy , Sweden , China and Japan , and regions of the republic.
Along with photos and information, AzerTAc prepares video news on the country's social, political, economic, sports life, and distributes them on its Internet resource and social networks. The agency’s multimedia and video news service implements a number of projects, such as “Traveling in Azerbaijan” , “Our Monuments”, “Cities of the World”, “Our Luminaries”, etc.
Since September 2013, the Children's Knowledge Portal has been operating in AZERTAC.

A legal entity of public law “Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC)” was created on the basis of the Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) [8] .
On December 19, 2017, the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev approved the Charter of the Azerbaijan State News Agency [9]
