The wall was built in 1973 on an empty part of the building and $ 2,000 was spent on its creation . It consists of 42 aluminum rods (pins) painted in green, attached with steel bolts to the wall with a blue background. [1] Occupies 3/4 of the wall surface of a building and covers almost 8 floors.
The owners of the 599 Broadway building back in 1997 complained about the construction created due to water seeping through the wall and asked the municipality to dismantle it, even went to court. They also reported that if the advertisement is placed on the wall, it can bring up to $ 600,000 in revenue per year. [2] In April 2007 , the city and the owners of the building reached an agreement under which a work of art could be installed above, which would make room for advertising.
