History
Since the Qin Dynasty, these places have been part of Chenqang County (陈仓 县). Under the Tang Empire, in 758, Chenqang County was renamed Baoji (宝鸡 县).
During the Civil War, these places were occupied by the Communist forces in July 1949, and the communist authorities allocated the urbanized part of Baoji County to the city of Baoji; the city was divided into four districts. In June 1950, the districts were given numbers instead of names: the Xiancheng (县城 区) district became district No. 1, the Xinshi (新 市区) district became district No. 2, and the Shilipu district (№ 区) became district No. 4. In September 1951 year, District No. 2 was divided into District No. 2 and District No. 3, and district No. 4 was renamed to District No. 5. In July 1955, instead of numbers, the districts were renamed again, and District No. 1 became Chengguan (城关 区), district No. 2 - Jintai District, District No. 3 - Jinling District (金陵 区), and District No. 5 - Shilipu District. In March 1956, the Chengguan and Weibin districts were merged into District No. 1, the Jintai and Jinling districts were united into District No. 2, the Douji District was renamed into District No. 3, and the Main District (马 营 区) with part of the land transferred under the jurisdiction of the city, became District No. 4. In May 1956, the Jintai and Douji districts were re-established. In October 1958, the districts were renamed into communes. In January 1959, the communes of Weibin, Douji, Qingjiang and Jintai were merged into the commune of Jintai.
In October 1961, the Jintai commune was disbanded, and the Jintai and Douji districts were re-established. In January 1967, during the Cultural Revolution, the Jintai district was renamed Chaoyang (朝阳 区), and the Douji district was renamed Xianyang (向阳 区), but in September 1968 they were returned to their previous names. In 1971, the Douji District and part of the land of the disbanded Prigorodny District (郊区) were annexed to Jintai District.
In 1980, Baoji County and Baoji City were disbanded, and Baoji City District was established.
Administrative Division
