History
In 1905, the building of the city fire department was built on the territory of the future square. The area, located at the city fire station, was called the Fire Station, popularly also referred to as the "Square at the Tower". In the immediate vicinity of the Fire Square was the railway station and the plant “ V. G. Stoll & Co. , ” which left an imprint on its future fate. Since this area was considered central to the station near the village, during the revolutionary years the workers of the Chelyabinsk plant “V. G. Stoll and Co., conducted their demonstrations. Famous Chelyabinsk revolutionaries, including Dmitry Kolyuschenko, attended the demonstrations . In 1919, events on Fire Square launched the Bolshevik uprising against the Kolchak army [2] . At the appointed time, detachments of railway workers and workers of the V. G. Stoll and Co. ”and the miners, and attacked White Guard detachments at Chelyabinsk station. In memory of these events, on February 20, 1920, the square received the name of the Rebels (the name “Rebellions” was also used). In 1925, a monument to “Liberated Labor” (another name: “Monument to the Risen Worker”) was erected in the center of the square. In 1948, a cinema was built on the square, which was named in honor of the thirty years of the Komsomol (now Zvillinga St. 81) [3] . After the construction of the cinema, the “Monument to the Risen Worker” was in the courtyard of the new cultural institution, thereby the monument was closed to passers-by. Over time, it was decided to dismantle the monument. On November 6, 1967, a memorial plaque was erected on the cinema building in memory of the events of 1919. At the end of the 90s of the XX century, the memorial plaque was removed from the cinema building, but on February 22, 2014, the new owners of the building restored the memorial plaque to its original place. [4] At present ( 2015 ), the area of the rebels is not indicated on city maps.
