Biography
In the years 1939-1945, Herman attended the Langgans Secondary School in Berlin. In 1938-1945 he was a member of the Jungfolk and at the end of World War II participated in air defense activities.
Until 1949, work in the newspapers Berliner Zeitung and Start . In 1948 he joined the SED . In 1949-1952 he worked as deputy chief editor, and in 1954-1960 - as editor-in-chief of the Junge Welt newspaper. In 1952-1961 he was a member of the Central Council of the Union of Free German Youth .
In 1960-1962, he served as deputy head of department at the SED Central Committee, in 1962-1965 - chief editor of the Berliner Zeitung newspaper , until 1971 - state secretary for Western Germany, until 1978 - chief editor of the central press organ of the SED Neues Deutschland .
In 1967, Joachim German was accepted as a candidate member, and in 1971 - a member of the SED Central Committee, in 1973 - a candidate member, and in 1978 - a member of the Political Bureau of the SED Central Committee and was responsible for working with the media, friendly parties and anti-fascist parties Democratic bloc of the GDR . In 1978-1989, German worked as secretary of the SED Central Committee and was engaged in campaigning. On November 10, 1989, Joachim German was expelled from the SED Central Committee.
